There’s a lot that some people might not know about my history on this so called ‘planet’. Other than being bald and looking like a gender questioning Slenderman I am in fact a writer.
I recently flicked through my debut book and marvelled at the author photo on the back. So much baldness and energy was captured in that tiny little head-shot that it got me thinking back to my journey of how I got into the position to write the book in the first place.
I want to preface this weeks newsletter by saying this isn’t a Steven Bartlett style crypto bro narrative of ‘if you’re not doing XYZ then you’re not going to get a book deal’ - it’s my unique experience which I can identify as one that’s not like all authors who enter the literary world. So instead of seeing this as a list of definitive instructions, take what you like and leave the rest.
So, here’s how I got a book deal at 20, and five things i’d change about it if I could.
